Soulful George!

Blind Corner (1963 Britain)

(This motion picture is also known as “Man In The Dark” for the American market) Director Lance Comfort’s finest 74 minutes of his career. Not that that’s saying much as his stock in trade was the “supporting” B films that were shown before the main feature in British cinemas throughout the 1950s and 60s. These types of movies were done on the cheap as there just wasn’t enough cash in Britain’s post-war film industry those days. Its amazing how many did get made. They were always great value, and its fairly cheap to build up a nice dvd collection of them. They are also historical documents as to how people lived back then. [Read more…]

Oh Yes I Cannes!

Whimsy  is never far away from this blog. But no visitor can argue that I don’t attempt to nourish your minds with some knowledge you may not know. Here is a lady I’d never heard of before today. She was an English actress named Simone Silva, and she wanted to make a big impression at the Cannes Film Festival in 1954. So, with a horrified Robert Mitchum (who recently celebrated his 100th birthday in the spirit world) looking on, she decided to whip ’em out. “I’ll do anything to become a star” was her mantra. These photos were big hits around the planet. Result? No Cannes do! – and she was asked to leave the festival. But she certainly succeeded in making an impression. Maybe even two. And now she is making her debut on highteadreams 63 years later. Magazine covers can be more entertaining than real life.

Rotten Fruit (When Liberals Go Bad)

I don’t have time to write a review at the moment and I’ve decided to post some non-musical videos that give you an un-PC viewpoint. So what about a trawl through You Tube? Oh, look – I’ve found one of the best ranters out there. Stand up comedian-turned-political analyst, Pat Condell. Don’t hold back Pat, tell us what you really think of all these cowardly cucks. At the very end of this clip he’s actually come up with a fantastic new catchphrase. It can replace the Marxist “Happy Holidays” or whatever the PC crowd say. This one’s a much better one: Peace and Happy Racism. I think I’ll utter it in prayer the next time I light some herbal candles. Pat’s facial skin could do with a makeover before he fronts for the camera though. OK that’s a minor quibble. I’m not mocking the messenger as I happen to agree with him.

Thank You WordPress.com

p1000632I have been informed that today is the second anniversary of highteadreams. Funnily enough the first two posts are not there for March 4, 2015 as one was re-posted a few months later in longer form while the other got deleted. Not sure if anyone visited the blog that first day. Back then it was daunting to know there was so much space to fill. I can’t say the 2 years have flown by but I want to point out that there are 488 posts to look at/read now so there is more than just the Home Page to explore. I appreciate every visitor for stopping by. Much thanks to everyone, plus a special thank you to WordPress for giving all of us bloggers this platform.

Not An Argument

May as well put up another video. This time its a very short exchange between the late Christopher Hitchens and an Australian/Iranian woman. I notice that she is wearing a figure-hugging top, exposing her arms and no head scarf. Despite her rambling fatuous argument about the Koran guarantees so many rights for women, she knows very well she could not dress like that in Tehran while being allowed to shout out arguments to men in public. In Iran women aren’t even allowed to expose their hair online! The police over there have arrested models for doing such a thing. Maybe this explains hypocritical ladies like this one, who enjoy all the freedoms (including that of public debate) of the West but still have that whining defensiveness about their cultural origins. I guess blood is thicker than water. If this woman enjoys so many rights in her country of origin then why does she live in Australia?

Over The Past Few Days

I’ve had an unpleasant cold. All the usual suspects are involved: sore painful throat, blocked sinuses, runny nose, difficulty sleeping, but perhaps there’s one improvement. I can agree with the meme below. I sound like a self-pitying frog but I kind of like it. Even my landlady (a very tough, impatient type) has felt moved to make me some broth. I knew there was an upside to feeling ill…but I can’t write any more posts for a while.

2015 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 10,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
